about me

Enough said.

Who am I?

Hello! My name is Tania and I’m from Cincinnati, Ohio. In May 2020, I (virtually) graduated Summa Cum Laude from the The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!) with my BSD in Visual Communication Design with a Research Distinction.

After navigating graduation during a pandemic, I landed my first big girl job (yay!) and moved down to Fayetteville, North Carolina to start my new adventure where I worked as a graphic designer at a home textile company called Keeco. I took ecommerce photos of our products for a variety of retailers and worked on packaging for our products under several brands. Sadly there’s no work from my time there on my site due to NDA.

Following some reflection, I closed my chapter in home textiles and dove into the world of sports when I accepted a Graphics & Video Production Coordinator role with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers—a Low-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros. In this role, I worked with the creative team to design and develop marketing materials (print and digital collateral), create video board graphics and T-shirt designs, managed our website, maintained brand guidelines and attended all home games to photograph content throughout the stadium for future social media posts. I was also in charge of all ad placements and social media management for a few months during team turnover.

That brings us to now — My husband got transferred, so we moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where I accepted a role with Del Mar College working in their marketing department as a Graphic Design Specialist. I serve as the sole graphic designer for the college and am responsible for making in-brand designs for internal and external use for the college (and it’s many departments). So far, this has ranged from digital projects to printed flyers to large scale wraps and environmental graphics.

When I’m off my laptop, I love all things outdoors, photography, and traveling. Growing up, my family had a rule that we never visited anywhere twice. Because of that, I’ve been privileged enough to see and experience so many different environments, cultures, places and people. I’ve been everywhere from a remote village in the arctic circle to bustling cities like Paris, but I still have so much left to see! My travels and experiences serve as a constant inspiration. Just for fun, let’s play two truths and a lie…I have hiked up Mount Vesuvius, swam with pigs in the Bahamas, and rappelled off a castle in Italy. Which do you think I haven't done (yet)?

I also enjoy writing and poetry. In high school, I received Scholastics awards for two poems. While I am not a copywriter, I think this hobby has helped me in my design career as well, especially when I didn’t have access to copywriters. It’s also earned me a side gig as “office proof reader.”

More past experiences…

In the Summer of 2019, I completed an internship at a large financial institution as a UX designer on their digital team. This was a wonderful experience full of growth and gave me the opportunity to collaborate with, and learn from, researchers, designers and content writers. This internship inspired my pursuit of a research distinction because all successful designs are well researched and tested.

Additionally, my senior year, I served as VP Media of OSU CHAARG, which means I was one of seven girls leading our chapter of 400+! CHAARG stands for “Changing Health Attitudes + Actions to Recreate Girls” and there are CHAARG chapters at 90+ universities all over the country. My position involved working on a team to lead our chapter, managing our social media, running promoted posts, creating graphics, photographing all of our events, etc.. Additionally, I started our Instagram and grew it to over 1,400 followers.

Research Experience

I’ve had the opportunity not only to create designs, but execute design research as well. This has taught me that research is a very important part of the design process. In addition to design research conducted at the front end of every class I’ve taken, I’ve also taken two semesters of design research classes, including one taught by the fabulous Dr. Liz Sanders. She taught all about human-centered co-design—which is designing with people, not just for people. We learned and practiced a variety of different research methods before completing a 10-week research project. My research project was on privacy in The Ohio State University dorms. My group had participants complete a number of activities anonymously to help us gauge their feelings on privacy in the dorms. These activities included a general survey, a floor plan strong/pain point mapping activity, a “do’s” and “don’ts” list, etc.. What our research boiled down to is that people don’t like to share and dorms are built as shared spaces so this is problematic in terms of privacy because there isn’t really any. Two deliverables of our findings were a “Privacy in the Dorms for Dummies” book, and a top 5 insight page.

Additionally, I received a Research Distinction for my degree in Visual Communication Design for the research work I conducted for my senior thesis project. This work is published in The Ohio State University’s Knowledge Bank here.

If you got this far, you deserve to know that I haven’t swam with the pigs yet, but it’s on my list! This site is populated with various work I’ve done since 2016. Please reach out if you have any questions, or want to work together!
